HALL OF FAMER RUBEN OLIVARES TO RETURN TO CANASTOTA 
FOR 2026 HALL OF FAME INDUCTION WEEKEND

Annual Hall of Fame Weekend celebration set for June 11-14

    CANASTOTA, NY - MARCH 6, 2026 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum is pleased to announce Hall of Famer Ruben Olivares will return to Canastota to participate in events planned for the 2026 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend June 11-14.  


































     “Ruben Olivares was one of boxing’s most dynamic punchers who thrilled fans with his action-packed ring style throughout his championship career,” said Hall of Fame executive director Edward Brophy. “We are very much looking forward to welcoming him back to Canastota in June.”

    Olivares turned pro in 1965 and knocked out his first 23 opponents. “El Puas” twice reigned as bantamweight and featherweight champion. He holds wins over Lionel Rose, Chucho Castillo, Art Hafey and Bobby Chacon. A superb knockout artist, of his 88 wins, 77 came by way of knockout. Extremely popular in his native Mexico, Olivares was also one of the greatest draws ever at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, CA. Olivares was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991. 

    The Class of 2026 to be honored includes boxerGennadiy “GGG” GolovkinAntonio Tarver Nigel BennNaoko FujiokaJackie NavaJimmy Clabby (posthumous), trainer / cut man Russ Anber, referee Frank Cappuccino (posthumous), trainer / cut man Jimmy Glenn (posthumous), physician Dr. Edwin “Flip” Homansky, journalist Kevin Iole and journalist Alex Wallau (posthumous).

















    In addition to Garcia, an impressive array of boxing stars from around the world are set to be in Canastota including Marco Antonio Barrera, Timothy Bradley, Jr., Michael Spinks, Christy Martin, Erik Morales, Winky Wright, Jim Lampley, Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik, Vinny Paz, “Jesse” James Leija, Jorge Linares and Micky Ward. 

















    The 2026 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend is scheduled for June 11-14. Many events will take place in Canastota and nearby Turning Stone Resort Casino throughout the four-day celebration including ringside talks, fist casting, fight night, 5K race / fun run, boxing autograph card show, banquet, parade and induction ceremony.
